All the news for this 2021

2020 wasn’t easy. With its gallons of hand sanitizer, awkward Zoom meetings, and looming anxiety of uncertainty, it made us all a little exhausted.
Despite the circumstances, we all did our best to move forward.
Many have used the time available to experiment and learn new skills, others have tried their hand at the stove exhausting all the liveliness available, we … We took the opportunity to immerse ourselves even more in digital.

We have monitored the infinite web trends and compiled a list of the most relevant, which will accompany us in this 2021 to be discovered.

The Color of the Year

PANTONE® launches its message of happiness with its new combination of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating. Colors that instill grit and courage, in response to our need for vitality during this particular historical moment. A bright and cheerful yellow that shines with liveliness, a warm shade imbued with the power of the sun. Ultimate Gray, on the other hand, is a call to solid and reliable elements, favoring feelings of composure, firmness and resilience. The perfect combination to face the new year with the right mood.

Less is still more

This is certainly not new, but minimal design is confirmed as an evergreen trend in web design. In fact, in recent years we have witnessed a change towards intuitiveness and simplicity, to achieve maximum clarity.

Minimal is often associated with black and white space, but that’s not always the case. The use of colored minimalism has spread widely in web design with block colors, bold backgrounds, simple sans-serif fonts and small design elements to create a simple but surprising effect.

Dark mode

Initially this trend was spread by big brands, now dark mode sites are taking over more and more. It extends towards a chromatic choice of very dark colors or great contrasts between black backgrounds and page elements in very lively, almost dazzling hues, such as pink and yellow.

Curiosity: the dark mode increases the battery life of the device and does not tire the eyes because it reduces the exposure of blue light.

Asymmetrical layout

For many years, websites have been built on a grid, an approach that remains effective in simplifying the structure and focusing on the key elements. However, this mode reduces the uniqueness of the site, and therefore, the upcoming trend is asymmetrical design. Regardless of the approach, the viewer’s eyes are always fixed on large elements. In fact, in the asymmetrical design it is sufficient to simply increase the size of the blocks to which you want to draw attention, but the goal is to make sure that the graphic composition as a whole is always balanced.

Big data

In 2019 it was discovered that the user has a particular interest in analytics, results, data and statistics. As a result, it stays on the web page longer to read them. The Web Design trend 2021 wants statistical data in plain sight with important graphics, as if they were part of the design.
Green light therefore to all those creations that allow the visualization of numbers in an eccentric and singular way, using abstract themes and mobile and interactive graphics.

Custom typeface

The future looks very imaginative when it comes to fonts. The new trends push us to dare and even be a little rebellious in the field of digital typography, bearing in mind only one essential rule: the user must be able to read the texts easily and immediately. This means that, as long as the readability of the content is not compromised, you can indulge in various typographic tests.

Immersive images and doodling

2021 will be oriented towards the increasingly extreme user experience, where multidimensionality moves hand in hand with the technological evolutions of 3D, 4D and 5D.

The illustrations for the web of the future are static line-style elements that show only small moments of animation, so as to appear authentic, natural, effortless. In short, do without overdoing it. Evocative, imaginative compositions, similar to the drawings of brilliant children, which seem to be done freehand directly on the screen.

A great ploy to customize images is also to make a mix of real photos and graphic illustrations. A way to stand out from the crowd and convey concepts in an original way. This is an extremely popular trend for 2021. The technique takes the name of doodling, a style that we can also find in the street art works of the 70s and 80s.

Scrollytelling & Side Scrolling

We have seen a growing trend of storytelling through web experiences. This is where scrollytelling comes in: a visual storytelling that heightens the story and hooks you into its narrative. Whether the content scrolls horizontally or vertically, they add dynamism to the website are a great way to present information. Plus, although previously considered a misstep in web design, horizontal scrolling is making a comeback. Those who do it best break the mold not for the sake of being different, but as a practical way to progressively disseminate secondary information, as in an image gallery.

Custom cursors

Cursors are probably one of the most overlooked aspects of web design, with most of us settling for a simple old arrow. But when creativity allows you to take this insignificant part of a website and turn it into something interesting, it’s a good result.

We are aware that mentioning accessibility as a web design trend could undermine its importance. In fact, accessibility isn’t a fleeting design trend – it’s a standard our industry should be striving for.

The accessibility of the site for any user is an important part of the web design process. It detaches itself from the purely aesthetic and fashion concept, but has roots in a political trend, which is developing tolerance towards people with disabilities.

When posting a video, you should make sure that any user gets the entire message. If the site is focused on data positioning, it would also be necessary to make it accessible to people with visual impairments, so as not to have difficulty in reading. However, these elements should be implemented without harming aesthetics and indexing.

By taking care of all segments of the population, we will be able to expand the target audience.

Happy 2021 … Fingers crossed!
